As long as you both have fun together then go!
If you want it to be a surprise, then first try to make him trilled in seing live rock bands and ofcourse hide it,
Goodluck! =)

I don't know how Petrucci or Satriani would be too much for him, they're both good/clean guitarist. The only problem with taking him to one of those is finding one near you, Satriani usually does the G3 tour, and those are world-wide, and Petrucci has been touring with megadeath lately, not sure if you wanna take your 13 yo grandson to a megadeath concert though. I would try John Mayer, if he's into Blues guitar, but as for rock for a thirten year old, the safest best would be a G3 concert, it seems to be the cleanest, that's a concert for guitarist though. Hope this helps a little.

teenagers these days really like top artists and as an example nickelback. linkin park, my chemical romance, evanescence are great performers with a handful of guitars. most concerts do covers for other bands so there should be some 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s rock out there. make a decision. do some research. if it's a surprise for him, don't discuss it with him and try to ask some one like his friends who're great performers, live.

go ahead take him to a rock concert. Nickelback is not really a good band, especially when it comes to concerts, so yah. I'm only 12 and I went to a My Chemical Romance Concert 2 weeks ago. it was so fun!

Then take him to a nickelback concert when the time comes up, or try bands that are on tour that you think he might like to see. A band isuggest would be Crossfade, but i'm not sure if they are still on tour.. but there style of music is like nickelback.

nickelback is great in concert..i went to theirs andd yes...i would go back..also three days grace was good ..but be careful because even at the nickelback concert there was tons of ppl that were lets say "very vulgar" and it was a little too much for me because i dont like that stuff and i'm 19..haha.but any rock concert you take him to is going to be like that..sooo yeahh..good luck! just search for concerts playing around your area ...

I remember bringing my friends son to the WARP tour, and during a Rancid performance, he suddenly urged to the mosh pit, and lost him for a good 5 minutes in the crowd. I had no idea what i was going to tell my friend... umm i lost your son... but i fortunatly found him. Just make sure you don't lose your grand-son in th emosh pit... Van's warp tour is probably touring in your area this summer. Otherwise i'm sure he will greatly appreciate seeing Satrianni and artists like so appreciate in your company! Have fun
