I'm looking for a road legal dirtbike. Preferably one that I could ride (female, 5'5" 120lbs) easily and that isn't too expensive. I already know how to ride trails.

I like Hondas. Yamaha's are OK too.

Any suggestions?

It depends on how much time you'll be spending on the pavement, and the trail.

If you're looking for something that will be ok going down the road on the way to 50 miles of single-track trail riding, then check into making a good dirt bike street legal http://www.bajadesigns.com/ this is the best option for hard-core dirt riding with a street license. Look at the Honda XR250, or even better, a KTM 400 and have it dropped a couple of inches.

If you're planning on more 'expedition' type rides, half pavement, half dirt roads, no trails, then check out the lineup from BMW. I don't think anyone makes a more fun on/off road machine that's got a shorter seat height than some of their GS650's. Used models are not that expensive.

The KLR650 is a great bike that's cheap to buy & maintain. They're big, and heavy, but manageable for a smaller rider with enough experience. It's the 'swiss army knife' of dual-sport bikes.

Anything else I'd recommend would be mega-tall for you.

Hope this helps!

The road legal dirt bikes also called dual purpose. from Yamaha are not all that good in my opinion, because you only have 2 choices the xt225 or the tw200 which do not have a lot of power. I had the off road version of the xt225 called the ttr225 and I hated it. now as for Honda you only have one choice which is the xr650l which is a good bike with a good amount of power and good suspension but would probably be to big for you, but I would suggest that you go to your local dealer and just try and see if you can touch the ground and maybe have a test drive. Suzuki has the best range of dual purpose bikes they have bikes from 200cc all the way to the 1000cc. In my opinion Suzuki would be your best bet because you have a good number of bikes to chose from. I would try the DR-Z400 bike i think that would fit you well.

hope this helps

I have a dual sport Kawasaki KLR650 and I love it. Because of the engine size, I would say it's more geared toward street but it is capable offroad too. It might be a little tall for you but they have lowering kits.
If you are going to spend a decent amount of time on trails, you may want something a little smaller and lighter - like a Suzuki DRZ-400

look for a 250 - 350 cc on& off road bike. both honda and yamaha make them. they are lighter bikes, and should be easier for a lighter person to handle. they also have a higher suspention handle off roading

I preffer Hondas myself for street bikes, but as far as enduros'
I'd have to go with Kawasaki for cross-over performance and ride.
