We live in the US and would love to go to Amsterdam this year sometime. Has anyone been from here to there, and if so, how did you get there: fly, ship? And was it worth it? Did you have a blast? Or was it disappointing? Please share your experience with me.

Simply put one of the coolest places for openminded people who believe in civil liberties and fredoms. It is safe, controlled and effeciently run, and not only caters to partyers and others out for wild nights, but also happens to have more museums than any other city. Don't be fooled by the red light district, it is what its made up to be, no doubt, but within minutes of walking, Amsterdam is a loveley thriving clean city which has allocated a small part of it to what some would call negative tourism, but they can call a cash cow. The rest of the city is worth visiting as well. The dutch are extremely cool people, and the most willing of all continental europeans to speak english. I strongly recomend going there.

I went in October of 2000 on the way to Israel. We had a 12 hour layover in Amsterdam so we did the tour thing. I loved Amsterdam!! I enjoyed it even more than Israel. We flew KLM airlines. It would be definitely worth it to me. I'd love to go back. It was cold and rainy, but I had a blast. Our tour guide wasn't the most friendly person in the world, but everyone else we encountered was. I loved the countryside with all the windmills.

Hello Sara,

I went back to Amsterdam three years ago with my husband. We found a good flight from NYC with KLM. Amsterdam is a blast, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and the locals were extremely kind and friendly to us. If you want culture, you have plenty of places to visit, if you want to party, you will have many chances. Many open air markets, selling very original pieces. Prostitution and soft drugs are legal and Dutch people are very open minded people. I wrote a summary with tips about the places we visited, like a small guide, if you are interested in reading it , drop me a not and I will be happy to email it to you. My advice would be, go, it is worth!!!

Cheers,
