It is possible to have a non smelly compost bin. I personally vermicompost and use worms to decompose my waste. It does not smell at all, although flies manage to get in. In an outdoor composting pile, it is almost impossible to keep bugs away. You can keep rodents away with a proper bin though. Here in California, there are government sponsored compost workshops that sells composting bins to the residents. I dont know about where you live though. Since you live in a really hot environment, i dont recommend you vermicompost unless you are keeping it indoors. Don't be scared by the notion of having compost in your house. A properly maintained bin will not emit odors. The bugs inside also tend to stay inside (unless there are flies). Flies usually do not get in an indoor vermicompost bin unless there are eggs in the waste you throw away. If you compost outside with the compost touching the ground, worms will naturally get in and help compost, but pests can also get in too. Composting without a worm bin will require few maintainence. You just need to stir it occasionally to aerate the soil and keep it moist but not too soggy. I am glad that you are thinking of composting. You can save money from fertilizer and maybe garbage bills. You are also recycling your waste. It is a good way to be environmentally friendly. I will support you and help you as much as I can. If you are interested in vermicomposting or have any other questions feel free to email me at vincent2000chang@yahoo.com. Good Luck!

One thing I forgot to add yesterday, if you are really worried about bugs and bad smells, the best way would probably be to dig a hole, fill it with your waste, and cover it back up with dirt. That way, you will not notice the bugs or smell because it is all underground! Just be sure that the waste isn't too close to the surface.

It will also be handy or elaborate. If it smells, you're doing anything mistaken. Outside is simpler. You do not ought to upload any insects, worms, or starters. Speed varies. The high-quality dimension is four' cubed, provide or take a foot in each and every size. If better, air can't succeed in the core; if smaller, the pile may not warmth up. Try to have a mixture of two/three top carbon fabric (leaves, sawdust, picket chips) and a million/two top nitrogen fabric (grass clippings, desk scraps). If you've gotten an excessive amount of of the primary, the price shall be slower. Too a lot of the moment and the pile will stink. If it does, get in there with a spading fork and switch it over so extra air can get in. Never use oils, grease, or meat within the pile. The extra finely you'll chop the fabric, the quicker it's going to compost and the fewer most likely it's to draw rodents. Every so traditionally, toss somewhat soil into the pile; it supplies the micro-organisms you wish to have..
