I think that our existence is a progression of lives, where and what form of life we may re-emerge in is of infinite possibilities. Most likely I think it will be one that will provide greater challenges and rewards than the previous ones. We are beings who's purpose is to grow and in order to continue to grow we must continue to exist.
Or we could just die and turn to dust in which case it wouldn't matter anyway. :)
