Obviously no one likes a funeral...I'm talking about SHOULD you have to attend one, who would actually prefer it to be open casket?
Why is that even an option?
Would you want yours to be open or closed?

It is easier for most to be able to accept the death on a loved one, when the loved one is seen in the casket. My dad died when I was 10 and had an open casket and that is how I remember him, dead and dead in the casket. My sister forced me to touch my grandfather when he was in the casket. I must have been around four. The only memory I have of my grandfather is seeing his hand and the coldness of it. Children should not have to see dead relatives in caskets.

There is no way that I would ever attend a funeral that had an open casket. I guess it is just basically because of who I am and how my mind works, but I don't want the last memory of a dear one to be them in a coffin.
When my very much loved father passed away I said goodbye to him before they disconnected the life support. I wasn't with him when he passed away due to the disgusting behaviour of the creature I call my sister. i did have the option of seeing him at the funeral parlour but chose not to. I have so many incredible memories of a man that made my life so much better and could not face seeing him in a coffin. The coffin was closed during the service and I don't think I would have been able to get through it if it had have been open.

Closed. Open is just ....dare I say....creepy. Worse is when people start taking pictures of family members assembled around the open casket and the deceased person is in the picture.

My mom was picked up when she was only a young girl of four or five in the 1920's and made to kiss her deceased grandmother who was lying in her casket. She could not attend any funerals in her lifetime (and I don't blame her.)

I am being cremated, so nobody gonna be looking at me....

Have a good, and hopefully coffin free night.

I prefer open casket funerals, unless the deceased is horribly disfigured or decomposed. I want to be cremated so I don't take up space rotting away in a graveyard.

I don't like funerals.I'll never forget my best friends funeral,I went up to the coffin and when I saw her I felt terrible.I know that she would have never wanted her face done up with so much make up.She never wore make up,and there she was looking like a hooker. The outfit she was wearing was terrible,it wasn't even her taste in clothes.I know I sound superficial, but that wasn't her at all.Her family did it to impress the people attending, not to respect her wishes. You see,she was gay and her family never accepted the fact that she was.She was my friend since we were kids and I still miss her.Sorry for venting.

Well kind of, when my grandma died I got to kiss her forehead one last time before they closed the casket. And I got to place a flower on her hands. So yes, it is kind of better. But I would rather have the person alive of course.

Mine, I would want open. Because I just want people to see my face one last time.

These days it is wise if you have a casket i want it open to make sure they are in there. You never know.

I would want mine yo be open for close family & friends to say goodbye if they wish to. Then it is closed for the actual ceremony.
I saw both my grandparents before the funeral and although it ain't pleasant, it was a good way to say your final goodbyes.

I want to be cremated.I avoid viewings of the deceased because I think its disrespectful. I wouldn't drag the whole family in to see Grandma Bess snoring away when she was alive and may wake up to smack me upside the head for being a brat so what wait til she can't defend herself then let them all in for a look see. It like hey poke her with a stick lets make sure she's dead.I'd rather just take your word for it.

i'd want mine closed, maybe open for those closest to me, to make sure i'm in the box when they cremate me :)
