When Wikipidia says that the Ethiopian Jews are akin to the Hebrew; and the Amhara are in turn related to the Ethiopian Jews...
Is this because the two groups (Amhara and E.J.) intermixed, or some other reason?
And just "how Hebrew" [lol] are the Amhara of Ethiopia?

The origin of "Beta-Israel" (the Ethiopian Jews) is unknown for certain, so we can't really tell how "Hebrew" they are (as ridiculous and petty as it may sound…).
According to their tradition, they are the descents of King Solomon and Queen of Sheba. Other theories refer to the people of Dan who fled to Ethiopia after the Assyrian Diaspora, the people of Judah who fled to Ethiopia after the destruction of the first temple and the Jews of Egypt who immigrated to Ethiopia at the second temple period.
Another theory (that is not accepted nowadays by most of the experts) is that Beta-Israel are actually descents of an Ethiopian tribe that converted to Judaism at the 15th century, as a response to the Christian missionizing in Africa.

Beta-Israel are akin to the Hebrews (nowadays Jews) as they are recognized Jews by all movements, sections and ethnicities of Judaism.
They were first recognized as Jews in the 16th century by Rabbi David Ben-Zamra, the Rabbi of Egypt, and they are still referred as Jews by the Israeli Law or Return, no matter what their origin really is.

Beta-Israel are related to the Amhara as most of the Ethiopian Jews lived in this kilil (ethnic region) of Ethiopia among the Amhara.
Just like the Ashkenazi Jews are related to Germany and South-West Europe ethnically (intermarriage) and culturally, Beta-Israel are related to Amhara in the same way.

i does not say "Black Hebrews" on condition that it somewhat is a cult. yet confident there are Ethiopian Jews. they do no longer say they are from Solomon and Sheba although, if that exchange into the case then they does not be Jewish. Ethiopian Christians although many times make that declare. The Tanakh(previous testomony) does not say Solomon and Sheba had any sexual dating.
