I don't think it's much of a dare; the potential for reward is good because they may respond nicely. But if they don't, and they are rude or jerks, it's no skin off my back. I can change gears and deal with them in the appropriate way, and I don't feel like it reflects negatively on me if a person repsonds to my niceness with rudeness.

EVERYONE should dare to be nice first, like it USED to be!
Life just sux anymore, maybe if people dared to be nice first more often....

Of course! Sometimes you can even change a crabby person's attitude by being friendly. Look at it as a challenge. Plus, being nice (almost) never gets you in trouble.

I dare, I always try to judge a person at 100%. If they go down, it's their fault, not mine.

Might as well; it beats getting a backlash, either verbally or physically. Besides, if one person does it when he/she meets someone, that other person usually follows suit because it seems a more pleasant way of conducting business.
