Because to make it in today's bullshit business cut-throat society you have to be an in-your-face piece of trash to get by. Everybody's a bunch of tough guy/girl idiots (and probably listened to too much rap or something). If you want to be a 'normal' male in American society you have to be overly tough, overly confident, love sports, drink beer, seek bitches/*****, have a low i.q., know nothing about culture or high art, constantly be on edge like you're ready to fight anyone and everything, and pretty much act uncivilized. If you don't have these attributes then most everyone thinks your gay. We still live in the dark ages - look around, it's like we retreated to medieval days... Bunch of uncivilized, angry morons populating society...

Today's world views modesty and soft spokenness as weaknesses because the pushy, outspoken, prideful people usually get what they want. The idea of being modest is weird and old-fashioned in the no-holds-barred world we live in today.

I think it does more for men. Women who are shy and soft spoken are labeled as stuck up and snooty. People just dont take the time to know you before they have an opinon and it sucks...but tis life I supose.
