When you see your feet starting to swell, you need to get off them! Lay down on the couch and prop them up with a pillow. Also, make sure you are drinking plenty of water (I know you hear that alot during pregnancy, but it helps so much!) Mine seem to swell mainly at night, if I've been on them alot during the day, and even more if I've had a salty dinner. Luckilly, you only have a few weeks left to have to deal with swollen feet!

What do I do about swollen feet?
Because gravity plays a big role in swelling, elevate your feet at least three to four times a day. When lying on a sofa or in bed, prop your feet up on pillows; when sitting in a chair, place your feet on a footstool. (This also helps prevent back pain.) Here are some more tips:

•Don't sit for long periods of time. Make it a point to get up and walk for a few minutes of every hour.
•Wear full-length support stockings as often as possible, and avoid socks with tight bands around the calf or ankle.
•Exercise helps. Water aerobics are ideal because the "hydrostatic" pressure helps distribute fluids that have pooled in your feet.
•Ask your partner, if you have one, to give you a foot massage. It will increase circulation and help disperse the edema.
•Increase your fluid intake. It seems counterintuitive, but the more water you drink, the less swelling and water retention you'll experience.
•Don't squeeze your feet into ill-fitting shoes.

Will my feet go back to their "normal" size after pregnancy?
Usually. Even though the fluid-related swelling will disappear within a few days of delivering your baby, some women find that their feet are as much as a size larger following a pregnancy. For that you can blame the hormone relaxin. Relaxin helps loosen your pelvic joints in preparation for your baby's journey down the birth canal.

Can swollen feet ever be a sign that something is wrong?

Some swelling in your feet during pregnancy is normal, but if it appears abruptly or if you notice that you are also getting swelling in your hands at the same time, call your health-care provider immediately: These could be signs of preeclampsia, a type of pregnancy-related high blood pressure than can be very dangerous. You should be aware, too, that diuretics to reduce water retention are considered unsafe for pregnant women, unless they are advised by a physician to treat preeclampsia.

Treatment of Pregnancy Related Foot Problems

When resting, try to elevate your feet above your waist. Refrain from eating salty foods which cause water retention, and wear low heels or good walking style shoes.

Wear seamless socks that do not constrict circulation and when driving for any long periods, take regular breaks to stretch the legs and promote circulation to the feet.

Hot 2 Trot™ Insoles will help prevent ligamentous strain to the joints in the foot and ankle. Orthotics or insoles control the feet and rotation of the legs throughout the pregnancy to reduce fluid pressures in the legs, thighs, and feet. Wearing our insoles during pregnancy and throughout ones various walks of life may decrease pain, discomfort and reduce swelling in the lower extremities.

Podiatrists can also work with patients to help lessen swelling through special compression stockings. Call your doctor immediately if pain occurs from wearing the stockings.

Wear help stockings, do not sit down for lengthy durations, while you sit down use a foot stool. Put your ft up at consistent instances for the period of the day. Make certain your health care provider is without difficulty treating you for all different scientific stipulations. Ask your health care provider if a diuretic treatment might be handy. If you'll be able to, lie together with your ft resting on some thing that's greater than your middle,(illustration, mendacity at the dwelling room flooring together with your ft on a chair at the same time looking TV).

Keep your feet elevated but if they are burning, you should see your doctor. Swollen feet in pregnancy is common. When I was pregnant, my feet started sweeling around 5 months.

I remember that! As long as your doctor finds you are well otherwise - it is normal. I would fill up a tub with ice and water and submerge my feet. I delivered in August, so it was warm enough to do this whenever I wanted. I also had to finally give up my heels and any closed toes. Wrapping them in cold, wet towels helps too. Keep them elevated and thankfully once you deliver, they should go back to normal fairly quickly.

i found that cold water and elevation help.. Maybe have someone put cold towels on your feet as you elevate them.. Maybe throughout the day sit down and put your feet up higher than your hips for 10 minutes or more might help them not to swell as bad??
