This person is referring to a question I asked about banning smoking in public places...

"As a smoker, I think it sucks. To answer the second question, I do have kids and I do smoke around them. I smoke in the house and in the car with them. And that is my choice and you can't do anything about it. "

I kind of found it shocking that someone would be so nonchalant about it, and even "matter of fact" about it. I"m not hurting their kids, they are.

I am a smoker, but I would NEVER EVER smoke around my kids. That's extremely selfish. Just because I'm killing myself doesn't mean I have to bring anyone down with me! That is very VERY selfish! ALso, smoking makes your house and your car reek. I smoke outside ALWAYS. And I totally think that they should ban smoking in public places just so that I can take my children somewhere and not have clouds of smoke completely surrounding their heads. What a selfish thing to say!

Yeah some smokers are like that...... chances are that person is older in age. My parents always smoked around me, my mom even smoked while she was pregnant with me. Years ago people didnt think of the health risk like they do now. But if u think about it logically..... yes it is very selfish.

Thats pretty ignorant. Unfortunately I still smoke, but am very conscious of all people around me and take it outside even if I don't have to, and would never smoke in front of mine or anyone elses kids. Sure are alot of selfish people out there, kinda sad really.

It's selfish, but there are many ways parents thoughtlessly or even unintentionally hurt their kids in many different ways besides smoking. People are just the way they are and their kids have to adjust to it. Then their kids' kids will have to adjust to them, and on and on. I grew up in a smoking home, and later spent a lot of time in smoky public places. I'm much older now and it hasn't seemed to have done me any harm. I guess every one is different, though.

I grew up with both of my parents smoking. . . . .in the car, in the house just where ever they wanted. I absolutely hated it and I think that people who smoke around their kids (just like drunk drivers) should be arrested for attempted murder. Now my siblings and I all have asthma because of the second hand smoke and terrible allergies. My father is now dead (from cancer) and my mother has asthma, emphysema and pnemonia/bronchitis two or three times/year. That IS her choice to kill herself but she does not smoke in my house or in my car or in front of my kids. . . . and that is also her choice as I told her that if she wanted to be around us and have a relationship with myself and her grandchildren that she would not smoke around us. Guess she would rather see us because she goes outside to smoke when we are at her house or she is at our house.

Yes, this parent is very selfish and bitter about something else unrelated to smoking.

I am a smoker, I'm sorry to say ~~~ yet I have NEVER smoked in front of my children or any one who is a non-smoker.

Of course the smoker is incredibly selfish but that is what happens to people who are addicted; The satisfying of their addiction is more important than even the welfare of their children.

I love it when someone thinks they're spiting you, when all the while - they're only spiting themselves and their loved ones. LOL
People can be so stupid sometimes!
To make up for this moron, I know a couple who go and smoke outside - even at home - for the sake of their kid's health.
One of my pet hates is seeing kids in the smoking section at restaurants! How stupid can parents be?!?!

I cannot stand to see parents that do that. I have co-workers that do this and then they wonder why their kids get sick more often then mine do. Its true too. Kids of smokers are in the ER allot more than those of parents who don't. It makes you wonder if the docs are afraid to tell them why?

In my opinion, that is very selfish. They don't seem to care about theirs or anyone elses health at all. Even their own kids! But hey, what can I say? It's a free country, and people have the right to say whatever they want to say.
