how should you react without putting down your other background?

Jamie...I mean I've noticed alot of people of mixed races making racist comments back at people. I seen one girl call someone a cracker and she said she was half white herself!

It depends on what helps them gain popularity at the time. For instance if you have a kid half black and white, then it depends on the kids they grow up around, if they go to a predominately black school they are going to be more proud of their black heritage and if it's an mostly white school they will be more proud to be white.
I have a diverse ancestry I am American Indian (Cherokee and Blackfoot), German and Irish. I hear people put down Indians and a lot of times I agree with them, because I was raised to be more proud of my other 2 cultures. It's not right and I see your point. I hope this helps answer your question.

You don't need to react in a way that puts down any ethnic group or background. If you feel a comment is hateful or racist, say it. You don't need to justify or contest it by making a positive or negative comment about any other part of your background. I am mostly Spanish and Arabic, and when a person made a comment to me about all Arabs being terrorists I simply responded that that was a stereotype and that not all are. I didn't even have to mention anything about Hispanics.

I don't get it. Why would you have to put down the other one?

It sounds like you need to address a few things within.

Racism is a really unhealth way of being. It is very meanspirited.

So you're saying the way to counter a slap in the face is automatically to slap back?Hmmm. To beat a creep become a creep?

Something to contemplate.

It depends how hard core the racism is too and waht kind of person they are. Go with stuff that has integrity and is about change not retaliation if you can do it.

See the individual not the 'group'. Then you are not doing anything to put yourself down.

Racists of every colour are kinda in a group all their own as far as I'm concerned!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace.

PS...I also agree very strongly with Bree.

I have two ethnic backgrounds: Romani and Gadje (my Gadje is standard White).

I do not appreciate or tolerate bigoted remarks in my presence. I do not like them against Whites, Blacks, Mexicans, Asians, homosexuals, heterosexuals, Romanies (me), etc. etc. I do not like bigoted jokes. I do not like the "n" word, I do not like "gypo" or "pikey" (obviously), "sp*c", "cracker"... I do not like anything like that.

If someone insists on making them, I leave or ignore them if I cannot. I have learned that reacting to them in any way other than a look of disgust gives them what they want. If they get a rise out of you, they win.

If they are my friends, they lose my friendship after the first warning that I do not like bigots.

If I deem a person educatable I do so. If not, I do not waste my breath.

As you advance in college and on your occupation you will locate that maximum gangsta type video clips have been funded via Hollywood and whoever owns it. the conventional public likes it. It sell's. all of us say we dont like those videos yet cant say we've not seen one. i'd desire to agree which you do sound like a racist because of the fact of a this assertion which you made. "this is purely that i'm not involved and truly would be unable to stand that African individuals would be unable to look to make something substantial except this is approximately gangsters and hoes and crack heads." heavily? that's purely the strangest element to me and that i've got not seen a crackhead movie in years. I see alot of Meth stuff going around yet crack. How old are you. that's clearly some stupid trick stuff returned. HAHAHA to procure me....i in my opinion concept you have been severe. thank God you scurred me boo! via the way i'm Black.

you should never tolerate a racist remark, no matter what race you are. especially if you are a member of that race. im black but im not gonna sit around and let somebody call somebody else a "dirty cracker" i dont care what color i am. its ignorance.
assuming this is one of your friends making this kind of remark, find a clever way to ask them to act with more taste for example if somebody said a racist remark about black people i would say "practicing for your interview with the klan, are we?"
a playful way of letting them know their comments arent appreciated.

Racist remarks are products of stupidity. Responding to stupidity makes you stupid too. So just pretend that you didn't here anything and say "Hey! The ice cream truck is here!"
