I have a new born baby. She's 1 month old.
Is there age restrictions when it comes to having a shower?
Seems like a silly question but I don't want to do the wrong thing.

At my baby's 2 month checkup the doctor asked if we had started giving him showers. I ended up giving my baby a shower a week after that.

I spoke to a few other moms about showering with babies and they suggested I do the following:
1) Turn on heater, if it's not warm enough
2) Get all baby's things ready and near by - baby wash, baby washcloth, baby hooded towel, etc
3) Prepare baby - undress baby to diaper and wrap baby with a light receiving blanket
4) Place baby in a safe place near shower, like a bouncy seat
5) Take your shower, once you're done lower the temperature of the water if necessary, it should be warm, not hot
6) Pick up baby with the receiving blanket, remove diaper, and slowly bring baby into shower keeping the receiving blanket on the baby (wet babies are slippery)
7) Cleanse baby with baby wash, carefully moving baby and using blanket to keep your grip on the baby
8) Once done wrap baby up in hooded towel and place on bouncy seat. Wrap yourself up in a towel or robe, then dress baby as you normally would.

Good luck.

I started giving my son a shower around 4-5 weeks old. It's very convenient and quick when you're in there with them. Either I'll hold the baby while daddy washes or vice versa. Now my son it 20 months... and loves standing in the shower by himself (or with dad) while getting clean.
My daughter who is now almost 3 months old still gets tub baths... but I will start giving her showers as well. The baby tubs just become too much of a hassle with the cleaning up and everything and the baby is always slipping around.

My husband and I have had our babies in the shower with us when they were very little. Don't let the water hit the baby in the face or anything, and do have two adults in the shower with baby. It's basically impossible to shower with baby single-handedly. It's not safe either. Have your hubby or whoever hold the baby firmly while you wash her or vice-versa. Just be really careful, cause they are so slippery! Eventually you'll get the hang of it, but it's pretty tricky at first. Good luck.

About 2 months old or so. Just be really careful when doing so. You HAVE to hold the baby the whole time, and very carefully. Make sure the baby's face doesn't get sprayed on, etc. I held my baby like I would hold normally. And wash the baby first, then wash me the best I could. I agree with the person who said it takes two-it is the best, safest way to do this. And, please make sure the water is not too hot, or too cool. Just right. Take care..

I showered with my daughter early on just make sure you put a towel across ur chest as a grip cuz they are slippery when wet. I have found though that is just as easy to shower seperatly. I loved the bonding, and play time but trying to wash ur self while holding a baby is a tricky thing.

I've read they shouldn't be in the shower before one year. Your better of with a baby bath. I have a nine month old and he hasn't showered yet. Before you try it, I would call and ask a nurse at the pediatricians office.

My babies took a bath with me in the first month, after the cord had healed. Once they could hold their head up, they would sometimes shower with me.

The danger is that this little guy gets pretty slippery when wet. It helps if another adult is standing by with a dry towel for him, so you can have 2 hands for your own bathing.

Actually my son showered with my husband and I until he was about 6 months old. It was just easier for us when we went somewhere or something. Plus he liked the water running over his belly. I tried one time to shower with him by myself but it got slippery and I decided it wasn't the best situation to be in. lol ... So! Now he has his little bath tub he sits in and we just bathe him now. He'll be 1 April 3. When I showered when he was smaller and didn't sleep (lol) I put him in his bouncer in the bathroom with me. Now, he still doesn't sleep and he stays in the bathroom while I shower. He's a pervert, lol, jk, he likes to watch and try to play with my toes while I shave my legs! He's so funny!! *www.happysahm.com*

I've never put my kids in a shower with me. I give them baths in the infant tub, then they use the regular tub when they're older. I shower at night, by myself, when my husband is home so he can watch the kids.
