it is labor if there is:
A sudden burst of energy or the "nesting instinct"
Lightening or Dropping of the baby (you may be able to breathe easier and urinate more)
An upset stomach
Diarrhea
Bloody flow (this may be the cervix beginning to open, or from sex or a vaginal exam)
Loss of your mucous plug (may come out in a chunk or you may just notice it slowly over a couple of days)
Weight loss
Slight increase in blood pressure
Increase in practice contractions (Braxton Hicks Contractions)
Some women notice these symptoms and while others do not, either way is perfectly normal.
False Labor
Contractions don't get closer together.
Contractions don't get stronger.
Contractions tend to be felt only in the front.
Contractions don't last longer.
Walking has no effect on the contractions.
Cervix doesn't change with contractions.
True Labor
Contractions do get closer together.
Contractions do get stronger.
Contractions tend to be felt all over.
Contractions do last longer.
Walking makes the contractions stronger.
Cervix opens and thins with contractions.

For me they began in my slash again and I might truthfully consider the suffering wrap round my waist and cross into my slash stomach. The contraction itself lasts approximately 30 seconds. They had been lovely slight in the beginning however as they get nearer the suffering accelerated. By the time they had been three mins aside the suffering used to be so dangerous it took my breath away. With my first labour I dilated 7 cm in 20 mins and the suffering used to be so dangerous it felt like anybody used to be ripping out my insides. Thankfully labour the moment time wasn't so dangerous. On a extra optimistic notice I recognize females who appear not to even detect the starting contractions and manage the supply like a professional. Good good fortune and I desire she's probably the most fortunate ones!

Im assuming a first pregnancy, so I would guess this is more likely braxton/hicks contractions, aka false labor. Unless her water breaks or the contractions become regular, I wouldn't worry too much. Fist babies tend to threaten a lot but are usually late.

It could be back labor or back pains that are totally normal. If you'r concerned, call an OB/GYN. You should also get "The Expectant Father", but it may be a bit late to learn about the pregnancy.

sounds like baby might be coming tonight...keep track of the pains..when they get to 5 minutes apart then off to the hospital otherwise they could be phantom pains.I hate them because they are so much like the real ones but you may have on in 5 minutes then one in a half an hour then one in 20 minutes they are not real if they stay at intervals of 10 minutes then 6 minutes then 5 etc then it may be real good luck and gongrates

If the pain starts to get unbearable then she would need to go to the hospital. It's possible to have labor pains in the back area.

Could be.... time them to see if there's a regular pattern. If it's labor, they will be consistent in time... and will gradually become closer and closer together... they will NOT move farther apart if it's real labor.
It could also just be Braxton-Hicks, or false labor contractions... which is just the abdomen exercising itself for the main event.
