I did not have a period for 6 months, then got my period, and now I've been bleeding for 4 months. I know I should go to a doctor but Im afraid they will want to put me on birth control to regulate my periods and I know that the pill causes blood clots.

You probably have polycystic ovarian syndrome...look it up and see if the other symptoms make sense. See a doctor.... they may not put you on the pill they may try metformin.

Sounds like dismenorrhea. The only way you're going to be able to fix it is with the pill for a little while. It won't cause blood clots unless you're a smoker. It's really not bad.

the pill is more likely to cause clots in women over 30. a low dose pill decreases the risk. do you wear an IUD? take depo provera? it's not normal to bleed for so long, check with your doc asap!

You could be anemic (low iron) or have endometriosis (painful disease that causes irregular periods) Have blood work done at you doctor and see if simple diet changes could help
