I know that this might sound gross, but when I get really nervous I have the tendency to bite my nails. I've tried to not bite my nails, but somehow I always find myself biting them when I'm really nervous or stressed. Is there any other way to deal with my nervousness and stress without ruining my nails? I'm trying to grow my nails out, but my situation with school and my friends keeps me stressed so I tend to start biting my nails. Also, what causes people to want to bite their nails when their stressed or even just because?

there is this special nail polish that you can buy at drugstores that when you bite your nails it tastes really bad and will eventually get you to stop.

i used this, i have the same problem and now i have normal nails!

I started biting my nails and pulling away the skin around my nails when I was very young. I used it as a coping mechanism when I became nervous or scared; it then turned into a habit.
Now I'm constantly doing it: nervous, scared, excited, bored, whatever. My mom used to paint this really bad-tasting stuff on my nails and on the skin around them but I would just peel it off when it dried. =P
I honestly have not found something to replace this habit. I would recommend keeping a bag of pretzels or veggies handy; something healthy to munch on might fulfill your need to fidget when you are anxious.

The easiest way is to crush some garlic and put it in your regular nail polish, that way when you bite them, they'll taste nasty.

get fake nails done at walmart or wherever that's what happened to me and i chewed them and they didn't break off for at least a month or dip your fingernails in jalepenos and then it'll be so spicy you wouldn't want to chew them

that's all the advice i have

It's okay, a lot of people do it. even adults. (trust me my 60 yr old teacher was talking to us about how she bit them). I guess it's when their stressed or bored, or scared, it's just comforting to chew on something.
