Why do the signs that say "Slow Children" have a picture of a running child?

To show that a small child or kid could run out in the road at any time without warning. I hope you aren't serious, because I would hate to have you drive through my neighborhood thinking that the sign that has children running and says "Slow Children" doesn't make sense. jkg.

It is definitely bizarre to consider the running adult-looking character as a walking child. But my favorite was a couple of signs right next to eachother which, when read straight through from one to the other, read:

"Slow children playing speed hump."

Then I thought to myself, yes, the child must be slow to be playing as though he were a speed hump.

no, it means the slowness is in the brain. like a mentally challenged child could have a sign placed near his or her home because they may not realize not to cross the street without checking. say a ball rolled across, they would be focused on the ball and run to get it and not see the car and get hit.

Maybe your reading it wrong maybe the slow refers to a mental state and they are running cause they heard the ice cream truck and maybe they are not children at all maybe their name is Clyde and they just still live with their mom cause she makes the best blueberry pancakes in the whole wide world...maybe Glenn ...just maybe...

The same reason you park in a driveway and drive on the parkway. They can't have signs that aren't confusing. That might make sense.

I have wondered that myself.

But I have come to the conclusion that "Slow Children" is just another way of saying "Mentally Challenged Children" because they must not be too bright if they are playing in the middle of the road! Lol ! :)
