I had an ultrasound around week 17/18 and the doctor told me I was having a girl. But i read somewhere that, that is too early. I dont think the doctor would tell me something, if it wasnt accurate and i believe he wouldve indicated its an assumption or it looks like, but we'll find out later.. so my question is was the 17/18 week ultrasound too early to determine the sex of my baby, I have already bought her clothes for about 6months supply...should i have waited later to check... I am now 26 weeks..after the 17/18 week ultrasound when should i expect my next one, i've only had one so far..

No, that is not too early. It really is quite obvious, when showing properly, the differences between boy & girl parts. You should be fine with the clothing that you have bought. If everything goes well in your pregnancy, you may not have another ultrasound, at all. Good Luck!

17/18 weeks is not too early to tell at all. A baby's sex can be determined as early as 12 weeks, but takes a few weeks to be noticeable on ultrasound. If your baby was in the right position, then your ultrasound tech/doctor probably knew exactly what he was looking at or he wouldn't have told you it was a girl. As far as when your next US is, you need to ask your doctor. You may not require anymore if your baby seemed perfectly healthy at the last one. Good luck!

I don't think it's too early. I went for a private ultrasound at 12 weeks and was told that the sex could be predicted with 90% accuracy at 12 weeks, 95% accuracy at 13 weeks and 99% accuracy after that point.
If you are in the UK and you had no problems at your 18 week scan, then you won't get any more on the NHS. You will have to pay if you want another one.

If they werent reasonably sure then im sure they wouldnt tell you.
My sonographer predicted both my first two babies would be girls and she was right.
Shes predicted this one im having now is a boy so we will see!!
As for scans all Hospitals and Districts have different policies on scanning so its hard to sat when you will be offered another.
Its normally just the two...Dating Scan at around 12 weeks and an anomaly scan at around 20 weeks.

on the ultra sound they are looking at bones in the pelvic area - 2 white lines for a boys pelvic area and 3 for a girl, because of the obvious down shape there.

The gender is one thing but the male or female genitalis another thing so ,I suggest to wait and see what the baby will like to be , heterosexual or other.!!
