Keloid scars can happen to anyone but are more prone in black people.
Dr's can inject the scar with Kenalog which is a medicine that is known for it's abilities in reducing scar tissue accumulation.
After the scar is formed I am not aware of anything that would reduce the Keloid should one appear.
In fire burn scars,it is often treated with a fitted elastic bandage to minimize scaring so you might try an elastic wrap that is pretty smooth, sush as TED hose that can be found at Wal Mart or possibly at your local Senior Citizen specialty pharmacy.

I agree with tsopolly. I, too, have keloids on my chest and have had cortisone injections on a monthly basis and it has helped to flatten out the scar. It feels like someone pinching you, so it's not a bad procedure at all. They take like 10 minutes to do it. I then have also had laser surgery in which the dr. uses a laser to get rid of the redness. This, too is very minor and not a bad procedure. Takes a little longer depending on the severity of the blood vessels.

People get keliods from infected peircings too. I got on one my tongue (under it), and on my nose (inside and out). I don't know how to prevent them...but I do know you to get rid of it. If the keloid is exposed at the surface of the skin, you can use asprin. No lie. Crush up tablets of asprin (not tylenol, or advil...but asprin) and mix with water to form a paste. Apply this paste to the keloid every night before bed. Since yours is on your leg, you may want to cover it, so the mixture stays. The asprin will eat away at the scar tissue, but not your healthy tissue. Weird, huh? Very successfull, and not at all painful. Mine are gone completely. Took only a few weeks. Good luck!
