I have two phone lines with at&t.(sbc). one line I have dsl. If I use dial up on the other line, will I be charged.? Both lines have unlimited calls. I do not have a rooter, just separate phone numbers and phone lines. Sometimes my sister wants to use the internet while I am using it.

I know with dsl I can talk on the phone and use the internet, but since I already have two phones lines ( for business purpose ), and each have unlimited calls. I just wanted to know if I would be charged if my sister used dial up while I use dsl. She is not on the pc enough for me to buy a router.I have two phone lines, two lines.

You do have free dial up access with your at&t dsl. You just need to call them and get a number that you can use for the dial up access. They provide you with the dial up service with you dsl account just in case there ends up being problems with your dsl service such as an outage or if you are traveling and need to access the internet while you are away from home. If you have a 2wire modem then you can hook up the second computer to that without having to purchase a router just in case you ever decide to hook the second computer up to the dsl.

If you use dial-up you are charged. The rate depends on how much data is being transferred and received by the computer and the Internet Provider. For a DSL it has a fixed charge, and you have unlimited access to the Internet. Although DSL is much more expensive than Dial-up but it has promising features such as instant downloads, quick surfing, and automatic log in to the Internet. The Dial-up on the otherhand, takes time to log on, and it's very slow, but at least you save a little money.

The correct answer to your question will have to do with the phone number you are using to connect through dial up. As long as it is a local number, you should not be charged. I would still get a router and put both PC's through the same connection. they will not interfere with each other and with DSL, you can use the phone while you are online as long as you are using the DSL filters your provider gave you. Good luck.

Hi with DSL you can be on the computer and the phone at the same time not so with dial up which is extremely slow by contrastie with dial up you may down load something in hours with DSL you can do it in minutes and with High speed cable or satelite you can do it in seconds and talk on the phone at the same time thats the difference Best wishes Gorbalizer

I consider the guy who stated you'll never opt for to go back to dial up again. you may talk on the phone with DSL, and that's way quicker than dial up, yet when achieveable, i propose cable. The fastest DSL % (that is the priciest) is virtually as quickly as cable. Plus, my cable business enterprise presented me a surprising deal on my cable and internet (for the subsequent six months, that's wisely more less expensive to have internet and cable then when I only had cable...extraordinary, huh?)

why would you have dsl and dial up, as far as i am concerned, to have dsl u need a dsl modem, so why not get a router and set up a home network, therefore you and your sister could use internet at the same time if u had two computers

dsl only comes across the line you are paying for as long as you use the dsl filter and it works you will be fine no charges apply but with dsl you should be able to talk and surf at the same time

I don't know at&t but here in Mexico Telmex gives you free dial up when you have a DSL service and you can use them both or even more in public places you can use wireless connexion for free with the same account so ask your provider!!
