It is normal and will go back to normal after you calm down. The cucumber suggestion is good. If you don't have any on hand, take one ice cube and wrap it in a washcloth and apply it to one eye for about 4 or 5 minutes then switch to the other. Alternate until the puffyness and hurt decreases.

When I was a child I underwent some severe trauma. I cried so hard and so long I had scabs under my eyes from rubbing the tears away. They healed and there was no scarring.

Try not to rub your eyes. The skin around your eyes is very thin and you must be very careful with it.

I hope you feel better soon

I'm not sure why the skin would hurt unless you've been rubbing them a lot, which I tend to do without even noticing. Anyways, there are two things I know you can try to help relieve the irritation. If you drink tea, or have any in your house, make yourself of cup of tea with two bags and put the bags in the fridge for about 20 minutes. When you finish your cup, put the cool tea bags on your eyes, again for about 20 minutes. I find that black teas work the best for puffiness too. Or, if you have cuccumber, slice the cuccumber after it's been in the fridge and put the slices on your eyes. I like this one a bit more, but that is because I like the smell.
Cheer up though, okay? You know what they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. :)

Your skin got dry. It was wet and then dried out. The skin also suffered added irritation from rubbing with tissues/washclothes, etc to dry the tears. It might sound silly, but think about it. Babies have VERY sensitive skin.... and the skin around your eye is basically just as sensitive. The wet then dry to wiping concept is the same concept as a diaper. I'm thinking maybe diaper rash cream. Just a thought. I'm no expert but to me, it makes sense. I'd give it a try if it were me.

Cover your eyes with hot towel for 10 minutes, but make sure that its not too hot for your eyes since the skin around your eyes are very sensitive. If that doesnt work, try potato slice or cold tea bags.

I think its just all the saline thats in tears, its sailty if you have ever put salt on cut by mistake it stings or even on a canker sore in your mouth..I would use a wash cloth with some cool water or warm which ever your prefer, cool is for red swollen eyes, warm is for itchy dry, but do what ever soothes you eyes.:-)

When your eyes water, they're making tears, just like when you cry. The tears from watering eyes help protect your eyes. How? By keeping them moist and washing out dust and other foreign stuff that gets in there. The tears from watering eyes might only fill your eyes or they might trickle down your face.

Whether you're crying or your eyes are just tearing, the liquid in your eyes is created the same way. All tears come out of tear glands, or lacrimal (say: lah-krum-ul) glands, found way up under your upper eyelids. Tears wash down from the glands and over your eyes.

Some of the tears drain out of your eyes through tear ducts, or lacrimal ducts. These ducts are tiny tubes that run between your eyes and your nose. Each tear duct is like a tiny bathtub drain. When the tears fill up your eyes, they drain out through the tear ducts. You have two tear ducts - one near the inside corner of each eye. You can see these holes if you gently pull down your lower eyelid a bit.

If tears are flowing quickly, like when you're crying pretty hard, the ducts can't drain them all, so tears run down your face. And have you ever noticed that your nose sometimes runs when you cry? That's because some of the tears making their exit through the ducts end up coming out of your nose.

Cold pack to the eyes or cucumber slices (cold) to the eyes for about 10 minutes. They are swollen from crying and irritated. Normal occurrence. Hope you feel better soon!

When you cry, you wipe your tears away repeatedly, the friction from rubbing your skin irritates it and the saltiness of your tears doesn't exactly help. Next time you are really upset, try blotting your tears with a lotioned Kleenex. Get to feelin better sweetie.
