It depends on why you are at the restaurant. If you are there to have a nice, quiet dinner, you want a table away from high traffic areas, especially near the kitchen or restrooms. Also, you want to be away from the door to avoid drafts. If you are a non-smoker, you want to be away from smokers. If you want to be away from small children, that's another criteria. If you have small children, you want to avoid tables with people who are on secluded dates or cringe when they see a child. If you are at a sports bar to watch a game, you want to be near the TV. If the restaurant has a fireplace, fountain, or other pretty, romantic feature, you want to be near that. If you are there to people-watch, you want to be in a convenient location for spotting people. "Good seats" is such a relative term. A good seat for one person may be a horrible seat for another.

A seat facing a door is good... if you're a gangster. lol For me, it's a seat with an interesting view. It can be a view of traffic, scenery, it doesn't matter, just a view. Some people feel like a quiet spot with more privacy is a good seat. I think everyone will agree that a seat too close to the kitchen, exits, or bathrooms is a bad seat.

To me, a good seat is in the middle of the restaurant. It's interesting, because there is always something to see. Also the waiters traffic is heavier so you can get their attention quicker. It's a less boring place to be. However, if it's a romantic dinner, I would suggest a corner seat, so you can coo at each other, lol. I also suggest a corner seat with children, so that they have less space to bother other patrons. Depends on the situation, but I prefer central seating.

I hate sitting in a extreme-site visitors section, such because of the fact the overwhelmed course that the waiter and waitresses take to the kitchen. I additionally do not want to be below a draft from the air-conditioner or on the threshold of the speaker or different source of song. for the reason that i'm a non-smoker, i don't want to be seated everywhere there is cigarette smoke. I want a sales area and am keen to watch for the 1st obtainable. I even have--on occasion--even asked to not be seated close to any young babies, particularly a birthday occasion. surely, i in my opinion do unlike being seated via any great team because of the fact they have a tendency to speak loud and giggle loud.

Not in a breeze or under the air conditioner.
Not near the kitchen, toilets or bar.
Window seats are always good.
Tables that are not too close together.
Not a main thoroughfare.
Somewhere you have plenty of room to get in and out of your table, for example, there is nothing worse than having to breath in every time someone wants to get past behind you!

Everyone is different. Some people like to be in the middle of everything to be "seen" and see what's happening. Others like to be in a corner booth, quiet and private. Some people like a view of the door, others want to be away from the draft of the door.
Personally, I like the quiet corner booth so I can chat with my dinner mates in peace.
