Why is he not legally a child predator? He's been given 1 year of probation and he can't work in the education system anymore, but why isn't he on the child predator list, when clearly he is a child predator?

Why is targeting children for sexual purposes an offense only worthy of a year's probation?

Does he actually have to have sex with a child before we can protect other children from him? He plead guilty to soliciting sex from her, even though she turned him down.

He's had other accusations that were not substantiated, so there is a pattern of behavior, I just don't understand why that doesn't qualify him legally as a predator when he is exhibiting predatory behavior.

Something similar happened in my town too. It happened here because they ‘plea bargained’ and the reason they gave for it was “to save the minor from the trauma of testifying”. Personally, I have a problem with that justification of a plea bargain. It does NOT benefit society to allow these criminals to go unpunished, and it sends the wrong message (that people can get by with it and get nothing more than a slap on the hand). And I would think that in the end it would benefit the minor MORE to know that the man was actually punished and not allowed ‘get away’ with what they did.

I really have no good answer. My best guess is that he made a deal with the prosecutor to plead guilty to this offense given that he not be put on a list of child predators or go to jail.

It depends on the state, but Predatory Sexual Assault in Illinois, for example, requires that the victim be under the age of 13, and that the offender caused bodily harm. It all has to do with the laws in your state.

It seems that he got off easy, got a break. He should have served time and be listed as a predator. This is not good.

Did he actually have sex?
Sounds like he maybe wanted to (bad enough) but didn't?
I don't know the details... I'm guessing from what you posted.
