so basically im teaching my self how to play guitar over the net, but whats a fret..??? is it the little line that divides, ??? vertically..?? im also tryiing to do tabs but, i think my guitar is not tuned .. ekk help//???

i fret is a piece of metel probably aluminum to change the sound of the string you play it when pressed down.

The frets are the metal bars that run perpendicular to the length of the neck. They do not "change" the sound of the string like one answerer suggested, they simply are there to show you where each note is on each string. You don't need the frets for a guitar to function (note the fretless bass) but they do help you find notes by feel.

Yep. When you hold the guitar on it's side, they're the little lines that go under the strings at a vertical position.

the little strips of metal on the neck of the guitar that go horizontally. You put your fingers down between the those to get the sound you want
