depends what state you live in. for example lets say florida. in florida you have to work 100 hours at a zoo or santuary that has animals plus complete a writen test. when youve dont both of those you then pay $150 dollars then you have your permit. most zoos an santuarys have volunteer programs, an alot of those people thier are volunteering for that reason particular if you ask them. also it is much much more obtainible to get a african serval, bobcat, caracal, cougar or jungle cat then to get a leopard, it may even be illegal due to thier statis because i dont know of any exotic owners to have one.
some states you dont even have to have a permit , an some you cant even own a hybrid cat such as a bengal.
*100 hours if you think about it if you put in 10 hour days you could complete that in little over a week

It is illegal in most of the U.S., but some areas do allow exotic pets, check with your animal control people or city/county people. Also, if you do have an exotic animal you must have a special permit showing how you plan to care and feed the animal. There are people with good intentions, but not enough information about the pet they want to adopt. These are wild animals, they never will be tame.

Yes, unless you have a felidae license and for that specific type of big cat. You must spend numerous hours (we are talking what works into a year or more) under the instruction of a licensed handler/owner in order to attempt to obtain one AND you then must have the correct enclosures/ habitats. Also your land must be zoned in accordance as such. Some states are more lenient than others. It is not a wise idea to purposely obtain these big cats unless you are doing it solely for the reason of a sanctuary for the ones that are being obtained illegally. A lot of people do it strictly for the ego trip which can ultimately lead to disaster.

Yes, and such a bad idea. In addition, leopards are endangered.
Leopards eat baboons, wildebeast, even Cheetahs if nothing else is around. They eat a lot- and they need lots of space. They are smart so they need lots of leopard things to do. They are deadly so they need to be kept by people who know how to and are licensed to keep them.
In my area is a large cat rescue which houses tigers, leopards and other large animals confiscated from private owners who couldn't keep them. Many are grossly underweight, sick or severely aggressive due to poor treatment prior to coming to the sanctuary. They help them recover there, but it's a sad state of affairs for such elegant creatures that people just want to own them because they're cool without the capacity to keep them healthy or to provide for their behavioral needs..

Do you know how much work it would be to own a big cat? Probably a lot more than you would be willing to spend. It also would be very expensive to feed. Regardless of the fact if it is illegal or not, you should not even attempt to own something like this. They are wild and cannot be tamed and domesticated.

yeah... we had a raccoon, and you have to get a permit even for those cute little critters. its not hard at all to get a permit for mildly tempered animals, but for leopards, bears, and other more dangerous animals, its pretty difficult. you can go to your local Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website to find the requirements for your state. good luck, and keep safe.

It is illegal and it puts your life in danger. The only way to own them is with a permit and they are really hard to get, and expensive.

Not only is it illegal, but it's morally wrong. Leapards SHOULD NOT be caged and made pets!!! Nor should many of the animals right now as it is (turtles, snakes, rabbits, ect)Sometimes I wonder who we as humans think we are...just because we have the power, doesn't mean it's right to use it.
