For my last job interview ( which is my current job) they did not call my references because no one told me they did ( one of my references) and they asked me during my last interview what would my previous job say if they called. My job before that they did not call. I am thinking since I work with kids you would think they would call and check to make sure I was not crazy but they did not. Do jobs just not call anymore? Is that outdated?

Not in my world, it isn't. We check references, criminal backgrounds, DMV records, education, and previous employment. Some companies check and some don't, but those that don't may either rely on background checks or are just asking for trouble. You would be amazed at some of the things a candidate's near and dear references have told me about them.

In my company, the reference check is part of the hiring packet so every manager has to check references. Although with all the laws that prohibit what you can and can't say, you really can't get any good information on a candidate. I think that's the reason a lot of employers don't even bother.

Indeed I do! I needed a new housekeeper because the last one was going back to her country. My current housekeeper is terrific. I checked her references which were all so glowing, that i thought it was a set up. I was wrong, If Lisa ever left me now, I would be heart broken. She is loyal;. honest. dependable and above all a friend.
