My Great Nephew is 24 years old and was recently hired on with a large company that installs the large lighted plastic signs that everyone sees outside a fast food restaurant or a casino. He was very pumped up about it.

Yesterday he told me that he was sent to install a giant guitar outside of a casino under construction on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. When he got there he found that his new employer had prisoners working on this huge sign. They were doing work that my nephew considered to be craftsmanly. That is they weren't just picking up after the craftsman. They were putting this 3 or 4 story sign together.
Not only that, but this company, that my nephew was so excited about working for, deemed it fit to put him in accomodations with those prisoners. He said the worst one was the guy who walked around bare naked all the time.
Is it just me, or is there something very wrong about all this?

I have a hard time believing that....

But i would quit the first day and wouldnt look back.

Tell him to research his job more before he commits himself to it.

It may be possible the prisoners were craftsman and qualified. As far as the lodging I would have walked off the job and tried to sue for making me share a room with a con who is currently a con I mean they deserve a second chance but not while they are still prisoners in my opinion

Funny, yes, but wrong, depends on who you ask.
These prisoners sound like a trustee to me. In Virginia, a Trustee is a convict with less than a year to go on a sentence. They have 'proven' themselves to be trustworthy to be released on a work detail. If your nephew has a beef with one of them, then he needs to take it to the gang boss or his employer.
If I was the nephew, I would request separate accomodations or I would pay my own room.

Ring up the prisoner's hotline and find out if that company employs prisoners, and if so what they are doing time for and their danger levels.
