Just call local vets and see if any of them take ferrets. Most will not do emerengies (find one for backup) but a lot of local vets can do the easy things like a check up and the distemper shots.

What you need is an exact date that he got his first distemper shot, it may be on the papers that came with him. If you do not have a date, then wait 2 weeks before going to the vet- giving 2 shots closer than 2 weeks apart can actually kill a ferret. He will need 3 distemper shots total, and marshall usually ships them out with the first one. He will eventually need rabies as well, but I do not like to give that their first year.
Other than that, you do not need anything- the vet can answer your questions.

One word of advice: make sure you schedule the appointment at a time that you can watch your ferret for the next 2-3 hours. Quite a few have serious reactions to vaccines and you want to be able to bring him to the vet immediately if a problem arises.

You really won't need to bring anything but the ferret. Make sure you have your fert in the carrier with a couple of old t-shirts so he is comfy. You can bring his bull-crap "birth certificate" that they gave you at the pet shop...the vet will probably confirm that it is wrong. haha (I have owned 4 ferrets and ALL of them had a fake certificate.) Marshall Farms does this so that they don't create a "stir" with people like me. They know they are not supposed to send out ferrets so young!

Anyway...the vet will probably tell you that you need a stool sample. DON'T BOTHER! Just tell the vet when you get there that you forgot. As soon as they take the ferrets temperature the ferret will preform the "dirty deed" and the vet will have a poop to do whatever they want with it.

Good luck with your little one!

I know this is controversial BUT think long and hard before wasting money on shots for your ferrets. For example...my ferrets are not exposed to any other animals except for the 2 parakeets I have. I do not take them outside and there is no way they can get out of my house. Vaccinating a ferret is like vaccinating a hamster. Its borderline ridiculous. Also...there are no laws in my state saying that ferrets have to be vaccinated. Ask your vet about your local laws.

If you are the kind of person who is going to take your ferrets out for "walks" OR you own cats or dogs then it would be a good idea to invest in the shots...otherwise just refuse them. Its a waste of money.

A ferret has an exceedingly severe metabolism for this reason it is going to have a relentless furnish of water and nutrition. Ferrets at the instant are not ones to easily consume and consume so it won't get fat. Ferret nutrition might desire to have very severe protein and fat and little or no Fiber. Marshall's is definitely good. Its the only element my ferret will consume. additionally ferrets have a small intestinal tract so issues tend to get caught in there. with the help of issues, i propose non nutrition products. So be very careful and watch what your ferret has in its mouth. Plastic, foam, and rubber is amazingly undesirable!!! additionally do no longer positioned any form of pine or cedar muddle interior the cage.Ferrets are allergic to it. they have very comfortable respiritiory structures. Ferrets % lots of interplay. a minimum of four hours an afternoon. they're very courious. IF the top will extra healthful so will the physique. so make confident there at the instant are not any holes interior the floor or partitions,or under cabinets for it to get in to. additionally save it far off from the dryer, range and refrigerator. If the ferret gets interior the appliance and the fan turns or the motor is started it is going to likely be bye bye ferret. Ferrets do % vaccines. they % a rabies and distemper vaccine each year.

If you look online at ferret club listings/sites they can recommend local ferret vets. Ferrets need physical exam, distemper vaccines as well as rabies vaccines. It is best to break it up into 2 vet visits because some ferrets have allergic reactions to some vaccines. Best to always wait 20 minutes after a vaccine in vets waiting room.
