I set a quit date, August 1st, 2006. About a week before my quit date, I told everybody at work, my friends, and my family that I was going to quit. The first couple of days were the worst. Everything physically hurt. I used Nicorette gum to make it a little easier and I think that helped a lot. But mostly it was the people in my life that helped. I still get cravings a lot but I haven't had a cigarette since then.

Natural Quit Smoking Magic

I went on the patch but then I cheated the first time, then about
6 months later I tried again but on a newer patch made by a
different company and was on it for about 3 weeks then just
stopped smoking and got off the patch. That was about 8-9
years ago. I was a chain smoker - 2 packs of marlboro's and
never thought I could give them up. I did and I am glad.
A final sad note and thought is that a friend of mine kept smoking and toking all of these years and never stopped , I
lost one of my best friends to cancer of the lung just recently
and it breaks my heart because this person was young and had a lot of life to still live.
Good luck to you, I hope that you do give it up. I have to say
that the 2nd time on the patch worked and did not have any
cravings for the cigs once out of my life.

Get pregnant that did it for me. Easy, I found out I was with child and put it out and had no cravings. Weird HUH! Needless to say I started back up when my son was about 8mo. old. I didn't smoke in the house but was a fool to start again. This last time I stopped smoking I used cig-a-rest. Its a combo of vitamins, gum and lozengers. I would have to say the cravings were not as bad as I had thought they would be. Unfortunately its to late and I think it is for many of us that smoked. Lung disease is inevitable I think if you have ever smoked. Try breathing threw a straw for a while that may be how you'll end up if you don't stop now. Good Luck to you. Mind over matter. YOU CAN DO IT!

i quit for 8 years then started again smoked for 3 years and now quit again its been 2 months but both times i did it cold turkey with a pack of trident gum the first time i started riding a bicycle to work also.
the urge to smoke is a short ,when the urge comes just do some thing and the urge goes away that fast. but you have to be strong i think the first few hours of the day the first day are the hardest. but no matter what day or how long always keep up your guard
good luck i hope you can do it

I went cold turkey twice. I have been smoke free for two years now. I dont like the whole patch idea, plus I heard it gives you nightmares. I just stopped. Its hard and its tough but at least your not dependant on anything. I was a heavy chain smoker when I was in the service, so when I got out it was time to quit. Hope it helps.

Well all I needed to hear was that my 49 year old aunt was dying of lung cancer! I gave up the day she told me & never went back. That was 8years ago ! I did use the nicoderm patch for 2 weeks just to give me a little help, but I really didnt need it as watching this beauty of a woman turn into someone we could barely recognize was quite enough for me!

I bought 2 packs of cigs put them in the freezer, because it seems if there is some thing that you crave and you know that it is at hand it does not seem like you crave it as much. after two weeks I gave them to my brother. But I can tell you I drempt about smoking and it was so real I would wake up feeling guilty, Because I could not tell the difference.

I have tried everything and failed so my MD gave me Zyban and i took it for 2 wks while still smoking and on the third wk i noticed that i was not wanting to smoke anymore i took it for 3 months i had no withdraws i love it i have been smoke free for 7 years. The best thing i ever did. Ask you doctor to give you Wellbutrin it is the same thing but cheaper. He will tell you about it if you decide to go that route. Best wishes to you.
