Do teachers get paid for Summer Vacation?

Teachers work under a contract which states how many days they are obligated to work. In most places, there are about 180 "student contact" days (days when students are present and the teacher is responsible for teaching them) and 2 to 5 more in which the teacher is obligated to take in-service trainings, work in the classroom, do progress reports, etc.

Summer school is a separate contract. If a teacher works summer school, he or she is paid for it and it is in addition to the regular school year.

So no, teachers do not have a paid summer vacation. I personally have a kid in college and lots of bills, so I have to work summer school, too. But if I had a choice, I would take off the summer and rejuvenate myself. I would probably be a better teacher for it, too, because I would return with renewed energy and enthusiasm. But that's life....

I'm a public school teacher in the US, and I have the option to get paid year-round. You can get paid for 10 months or 12 months. The salary is the same at the end of the year, it's just as to how much you get and when. Some people PREFER the 10 month plan because they can put the excess in savings and gain interest. I prefer the 12 month because I'd always be tempted to use the money and end up short on cash during the summer. So to sum it all up, you're just misinformed about teacher salaries. There are plenty of other reasons NOT to become a school teacher. :)

Yes and No. For the most part, teachers do not get paid during the summer. Teachers work summer school, some schools are in session year round, and others get part time jobs, During the school year, at least in the district I work for, teachers are given the choice of putting a portion of each paycheck in escrow so in the summer they do have a few checks sent to them, but that cuts down on the amount they get during the school year. I wish teachers got paid during the summer, but contrary to what people believe, they don't.

No. However, if they choose to have their salary divided into 11 or 12 months they will receive a check in the Summer months. To get paid in the summer they can also work Summer School, which here, is not bad pay for only a few hrs a day for a few weeks.

I am paid for 10 months of teaching. I choose to have my salary divided into 12 paychecks so that I have money coming in during the 2 months in the summer when I am not under contract. I could elect to have my check only during the 10 months I work, although the monthly amount would be larger, I would not have an income the other 2 months of the year.

Most teachers are salaried - they get a certain amount for the entire year, they don't get paid by the hour. NO and YES...we have a contract for so many hours per yr. Occasionally during the summer we may have to attend a conference or two in the summer to update on learning procedures. We put in our time and have to be open to alot of changes each yr.

I have my paycheck set up so I do get "paid for the summer". I have less taken out of each paycheck during the school year, then I get a large paycheck at the beginning of the summer.
