Nice theory - are you playing in a Fantasy Minor League.
Joey Votto was sent to the minor leagues where I'm sure he will be fine. Do not speculate with rookies on 1B until you have a proven player. It is a true power position and should provide the bulk of your power numbers.

I think you have to go for big Mark Teixeira!
He slumped the first half of last season until the all star break but really broke out in the second half belting 20 some more home runs.
So overall his numbers were still down from 2 years ago so you should get him for value... but he ended the season in good form and has looked great thus far in spring training.... i see a great season for the big guy. hes a steal

try to get giambi. he has been doing fine this spring. sexson would work to, and these are okay guys and in my opinion will be easy to get. Maybe berkman. P. Fielder even. He is good. Which ever one you can get

try to get todd helton, he's the most consistent at the cheapest price.
