There are some views on answers about black/white relations and equality in the U.S. that bother me. I feel that some (not all or even most) blacks have a warped view of what equality truly is. One black asker said in his question, for example, that a white person losing a job to a black person, or a white person losing their slot in university admissions to a less qualified black person was fair and was helping to level the playing field. I thought equality involved taking race out of the equation altogether and thus allowing people to advance in life based on skills, intelligence, etc. I just don't understand why black people, who have the same mental and physical capabilities of any other ethnicity, should receive priveleges based solely on skincolor. No race should. I know that there is still racism toward blacks today, but I do feel that there are things white AND black people need to do to make the U.S. truly equal though. Could someone enlighten me if I'm wrong?

To Terry: you asked what blacks can do to help with equality. I'll give a simple suggestion in the category of college education. Blacks could remove quotas from the equation. In their place, names and a person's ethnic background should be removed from college applications so those selecting who gets in wouldn't know that information and instead each application should just include a number that the applicant has been randomly given and said applicant's educational information. That way there is no name or racial discrimination. There's a suggestion that I think is fair.

To bigdraws: I have studied the history, and I feel that what blacks have suffered in the U.S. in the past was horrendous and definitely should not be forgotten. It's as important to our history as any other ethnicity in this nation's is, even though much of the history of other cultures than white in this country isn't taught nearly as much as it should be. I do feel however that I have never personally wronged you, and therefore I don't owe you anything other than respect. I should not be made to pay for something I didn't do. Do white people today need to step up? Heck yes, but stepping up should mean helping things to become fair and equal for all in this nation, not me paying an unfair price for a history I had nothing to do with.

To Serenity: I do see your point. White males are the majority and do have alot of control over many things. I think the problem is that if I did take it up with them it wouldn't get anywhere. White politicians are too scared to do anything like completely get rid of quotas in fear of being labeled as racist and hateful by some blacks. Some don't share a true view on equality and would protest over such a thing. No white person wants to be called racist, as the consequences for a white person being called one are sometimes harsh, even if it's untrue and not fair. I'm stumped as to who to turn to about this then. I feel a headache coming on here. LOL

You're referring to affirmative action I'm guessing and what most people fail to realize (even the black person who asked that question) is that affirmative action does NOT put people in certain positions just because of color. The people admitted to universities or given jobs, are still qualified. Everyone who complains about affirmative action needs to look at statistics and facts when it comes to who is normally picked for things.

I do agree that everything should be equal and I could honestly care less about affirmative action, but the way our society is nothing will ever be truly equal. Minorities are still discriminated against, and yea women can move up in society and hold higher positions but on average men are still paid more for doing the same exact job. We can have perceived equality, but true equality will probably never exist. It's an unfortunate fact of life.

edit: blacks don't control the quotas (most of them have been done away with) and they don't control labels placed on people. Take that argument up with the majority, which would be white males.

You don't understand because you are young and don't know our history in this country and the world around us he said it is leveling the playing field because of all of the injustice we have suffered here. Which white people like yourself want to pretend nothing never happened. We want to get to the front of the line sometimes because of all of the slavery, our children, mothers, fathers, sisters, daughters, brothers, being sold off and never heard from again. Our sisters being impregnanted by the master and force to leave the land and never heard from again were they killed (we don't know) all of the lynching and hangings, beatings, shooting, burnings, you even burned down our churches. So, no we will never be able to be treated fairly just because you got passed over for a job. So damn what there are 100 other jobs out there you can get that we cannot because of the color of our skin. That will never change. The playing field will never be level. After five hundred years of terror you have the audacity to complain about a damn job. Aint that a *****!!!!!!! SO what do you feel that could be done to make the US truly equal after 500 years of bondage, killing, raping, bombing, and Jim Crows Laws to further degrade you as a human being. Only to be told 30 years after afirmative action we don't need it anymore. You just tell me how can you make any of that equal. Then you have the damn nerve to call other people terrorist you are the inventors of terror. The king of terror nobody does it like white folks. You are top dawg when it comes to terror young lady. You need to go to a African American History Museum. The only view that is warped is yours and other young white folks that don't know their true history. And guess what the terror has not stopped you are not as blatant with it as you were before. Now it is called police brutality and the US Prison system. You kill us off with a invisible nooses instead. Like The tuskegee project. THe US department of Health. The war on drugs another noose around our necks; we don't own any boats or planes to get drugs into the US young lady so how does it get here especially all they way to the ghetto. Where poor people just hope that their car will make it to the grocery store. PLease you go talk that bull-**** to someone else other than black people because we know what is going on we live it everyday. I hope you are enlightened. Learn black history.

See this is why a lot of Black separatist groups get attention, people pretend that racism either doesn't exist or matter.
Yet someone racist or prejudice is going to hire a black person-really! It seems blacks should just focus on creating our own businesses or jobs because we will constantly have to battle with white America over this issue. And what can blacks do to make things equal for white people? If white women complain of discrimination, unequal pay, and glass ceilings- what chance do we have?

I agree with you. They make laws to help take "race" out the picture but ends up being nothing but a racially motivated law, or privilege. I don't think it's fair, because if they did it for whites, I think other races would complain and protest until the law was overturned.

Segregation was the best thing for this country. Whites were better off under segregation. Blacks were better off under segregation. Integration was pushed by the jews to weaken the country.

Now look at the way things are. Whites fleeing the cities for their own safety while blacks and mestizos are about to start a race war over gang territory, political power, housing, affirmative action and welfare benefits. All because of non-white immigration and forced tolerance and integration

Racial relations were much better when miscegenation was banned, immigration was restricted to Whites only, and segregation was the rule.

People who write things in long, long paragraphs lose my interest. I can't follow all that.

Not sure, but I thnk you are lecturing rather than asking a question.
