I just had laminate countertop install, I would had like a nice high glossy shine, it seems pretty dull. Can I do something to bring out more sheen to the countertops?

Use a light sand paper & slightly rough up the surface. Clean thoroughly with a tack cloth or cheesecloth with a little paint thinner on it. After it dries, put 2-3 coats of VARITHANE (a terrific mixture of varnish & polyurethane) sold in hardware store. Remember to use sand paper with dust clean up in between each layer. Your countertops will be high gloss for over 20+ years (I used it on my bathroom wooden molding & after 25 years it still looks new!)

Good Luck!

Countertop Clear Coat

We had low gloss Formica installed in a kitchen/eating area of our office. The countertop stained easily, picked up and held dirt, and was a mistake on selection. Our old Formica was fine with a high gloss finish.

We wound up taking the countertops to a shop that spraysed them with automotive grade polyurethane clear coat. I think they sprayed two coats, sanding between coats. This solved our problem and its been over 4 years ago an that finsish is hard as a rock and cleans beautifully.

We originally tried a clear coat poly wax and that lasted for a month or so and gave a glossy finish.

I, personally, do not recommend this -- the laminate countertops I have from the time the house was built are AWFUL. I am saving up for replacements that will NOT be laminate, because I tried the laminate resurfacing on a small section, and it was horrid.

Try using a spray on polyeurathane. It comes in degrees of gloss, or use one coat at a time until you get your desired shine!

mineral oil. that's what is used on stone counter tops. wash them first, then apply some oil to a paper towel and rub the counters. wipe with another towel to remove any excess. don't use vegetable oil, it will go bad (rancid), and smell. you can buy mineral oil at the supermarket or drug store.
