Why? Because the WII is truly a "family" console. Nintendo decided not not upgrade the graphics, they decided to not add a whole bunch of cool features. They decided to make games that would be lots of fun with their new controllers. Most of those games look like ****, but they were made so even a 2 year old could pick up the controller and play. Nintendo is playing it safe, and in this case it worked out for them. People love the idea of the motion controller, calling it "new" and "break through" technology. Unfortunately, this technology has been around for years, it has just never been utilized in this fashion. Personally the WII should NOT even be considered a next generation console because they did not push the boundaries, they did not put new technology into the system. Nintendo did what it always does, and it played it safe.

That's probably because the Playstation 3 BARELY has anything new to add to the console. The only thing I've seen that's actually new is the Blueray controller for racing and/or flying games.
The Wii on the other hand, introduces an entirely new style of gameplay.
This isn't just my opinion though; I've asked around and just about nobody wants a PS3 simply because the gameplay hasn't changed in the least. This might not be the real reason, but it's one of the reasons why barely anyone here wants one.
