from far away, it looked like a small small red spider

the picture doesn't give alot details,but this isn't an insect(notice the 8 legs), but i think that this is a species of mite(related to spiders and scorpions).

It appears to be a Tick, although what variety I cannot tell from the picture.

I believe it is a chigger. It is parasitic on humans, sucking blood and causing severe itching and other infectious diseases.
