No, the ACLU only represents the hard left.

I'm amazed at some of the answers you are getting, like your first one for example. They just assume so much, and don't even bother looking for the truth. I found more than a few conservative's cases that have been taken on by them but in general, they answer the question best themselves:
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Massachussetts, in its Frequently Asked Questions on its website last accessed Sept. 25, 2006, responded to the question "Is the ACLU a left-wing organization?" that:
"No. In fact, the ACLU is in many ways our nation's most conservative organization. Our main job is to conserve America's original civic values as written in the Constitution and The Bill of Rights. Historically, we have agreed with conservatives on some issues and with liberals on others. For example, we worked with the National Rifle Association to defeat a proposal by the Federal Bureau of Investigation that would expand wiretapping authority... The ACLU also filed a brief on the right of Oliver North not to incriminate himself when he testified before a congressional committee."

They have represented many. Religious Groups, conservative activists... most of what the ACLU does doesn't usually make the news. Not even the supreme court. A lot of cases are settled in lower courts. And they usually win.
BTW, there is no liberal or conservative when it comes to civil liberties. You're either for them for everyone or against them for all. (Okay, it's not that simple, but some days it seems that way)

Hey Brett and Lily P, next time maybe you should do some research before opening your uninformed mouths. The ACLU has supported a number of cases related to freedom of religion (im sorry that is a conservative cause right?). for example "Turton, et al. v. Frenchtown Elementary School, et al" Where the ACLU defended a second graders right to sing "Awesome God' and a school talent show.

So maybe next time you state something like it's a fact it might be a good idea to look into it yourself instead of just taking Limbaugh's word for it.

i thought they represented Nazi's in the past
In 1977, the ACLU filed suit against the Village of Skokie, Illinois, seeking an injunction against the enforcement of three town ordinances outlawing Nazi parades and demonstrations. Skokie, Illinois at the time had a majority population of Jews, totaling 40,000 of 70,000 citizens. A federal district court struck down the ordinances in a decision eventually affirmed by the U.S. Supreme Court. The ACLU's action in this case led to a rift between the Jewish Defence League and the ACLU. According to David Hamlin, executive director of the Illinois ACLU, "...the Chicago office which chose to provide legal counsel to neo-Nazis who have been planning to march in Skokie, has lost about 25% of its membership and nearly one-third of its budget." 30,000 ACLU members resigned in protest

The ACLU defends the bill of rights, which conservatives are constantly attacking, so many people think they are anti-conservative, when in fact they are just pro-constitution.
They have defended such hard-core right-wing fascists as Rush Limbaugh and Jerry Falwell in defense of the constitution however.
