“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear... And when it is gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear is gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Credit to Koobie. Here's the full quote:

'I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.'

I must say it would be very interesting if someone had the time to look up Middle Eastern proverbs about fear in order to see if Frank Herbert sourced (the threads of) this from somewhere. That's not to detract from Frank's brilliant creation, in fact his genius was to take a immensly rich collection of little known (in the West) cultures and histories and weave something new out of them.
