It costs $.26 to make a pack of cigarettes and consumers often pay $5 or more for each pack because of the various taxes the government puts on them. People can grow their own weed and don't need to buy it like cigarettes. The government does'nt control marijuana production and has no say about it. Since they can't make money off of it they make it illegal.

No. If weed was legal people other than hardcore enthusiasts wouldn't grow it because it's many times easier to go to the shop and buy some. It's the same reason why people don't homebrew or grow their own tobacco all the time; difficulty + poorer quality product.

One tiny flaw in your otherwise "brilliant" logic.
The "government" isn't some jackbooted, faceless authoritarian dictator working day and night to find ways to tick you off and cost you money.
The government IS your neighbor, your uncle, your cousin, and everybody else who votes. The people They elect make and uphold the laws that They support.
You can't have it both ways, because you get the laws you vote for.
Why is tobacco considered the worst evil thing in the Universe, and many people think it should be outlawed--while the same people whine and howl that marijuana should be legalized? I'd much rather share a crowed highway with cigarette-smoking drivers than weed-smoking ones.

Its more because even if they did leagalize it they wouldn't be allowed to smoke it. And that would piss me off if I were them so I'd keep it illegal for as long as I could.
But you do make a good point....and you are most likely right on the money.

If they legalized it, they could start to control it... somewhat... at least for those of us who can't seem to get it to grow right (insert angry grumbles here). They could tax the hell out of it, and begin to actually use hemp, and make money off of that industry because hemp is incredibly versatile and useful.

oh they could control it if they wanted to. many americans are lazy, so many would still rely on getting it from an outside source. they make enough money off it as of now, and are still on good sides with conservative america.
