If the babies your seeing eyes are open, should be by now, then you can go ahead and clean the cage. Take mom and dad out first and put them in a separate container from the babies, next remove the babies to another container, clean cage with hot water only, dry everything and put your Care Fresh or Critter Care litter in and put babies first, parents second. Wood litters should never be used with any small animals, this is especially necessary for babies. The typical wood shavings used are pine, aspen and cedar, but they all will cause respiratory problems in the small animals with cedar and pine being the worst and apen causing the most allergies. So never use any of the wood litters. A first time mom will eat some or all her babies if she's overwhelmed or stressed out. She very well may have killed the others. Since dad is still in there did you know that most likely mom will have another litter in about 9-12 more days perhaps even 15 days? Dwarfs can get pregnant within 24 hours after giving birth. If she is pregnant, she may wean this litter in 10 more days or as soon as the other litter is born. Have you thought about buying some more cages for the male and the babies when they get separated at 4 weeks or when weaned. Baby females can get pregnant as early as 8 weeks old. Also don't put the baby males in with dad, he will see them as competition and kill them. Mom is usually alright with the girls unless she has another litter nursing.

By the way unlike the Syrian males, Russian dwarf males usually are left in the cage unless you want no more litters for a while, but he needed to be removed before the babies were born to ensue no more litters. Syrian males and females cannot be housed together due to death fighting, plus the males will eat the babies to get rid of the competition. I am a former breeder who stopped in '05 and have dedicated my time to helping small pets in need of a permanent home or just a foster home.

Well first of all you really need to clean that cage. And you are soupossed to take the dad out bc he can kill the babies. Thats porbably what happened to the others.

Leave them alone. If you mess with hamster babies sometimes the mom will kill them. (Gross but true.)

YOu're right to leave them alone.

It sounds like they are fine if dad is taking them back inside periodically. Be patient.
