Hello there, I'm getting a Salomon Maiden SW and was wondering if 147 or 143 would be a better length for me. I'm about 5'3, 115 pounds, size 8 shoes. I'm also getting Medium Salomon Poison bindings and have Size 7 Burton Freestyle boots. I'm still pretty much a beginner, who needs to work on her toeside, but good on the heelside, and I rarely go to the park, usually just mountain runs. If you need additional details just ask. Thanks in advance!

Yeah your set up souneds good a Solomon Madien is a good begineers board which is quite progessive as well so it should last you a while. Its also an All mountain board which is the best type of board to go for when you are starting off as they can be used for all types of riding freestyle, freeriding, powder etc. As for the right lenght for you the old between nose to chin rule isent a rule set in stone but for begineer riders like yourself its a good starting point. As at the moment you wont know if you prefere long or short boards and you wont know what type of riding you prefer. But as you are a begineer i would recomend going for a smaller board like the 143 as it will be easier to turn and learn on.

Size 7 is a pretty small boot size so you don't need to worry about a wide waist on the board, you will have no problem with toe drag. As far as the length of the board, if you are not interested in park riding or freestyle then I would suggest a little more length which will provide more stability with higher speeds and will also require less effort in the powder. If the 147 is somewhere between your chin and the tip of your nose then I would go with that one, it would be the best all-around option! A smaller board is only nice to have as a second board for those days in the terrain park. Also, in my opinion the boot is the most important piece of equipment, make sure it fits well and is very comfortable. An uncomfortable boot can ruin a good day of riding. When you get your board ask a question about how you should set-up your stance:) By the way most people learn heelside turns before toeside. I suggest not getting too high on the toe-edge too early into your turn. The amount of edge you apply should be progressive in relationship to how far along you are into the turn. Confused??? It's much easier to show someone in person. GOOD LUCK and have fun at the mountain!!!!!

Forget the "between your nose and chin" rule. It's garbage. Height is nearly no factor at all. The ideal length would be determined by your weight. For your size, go with the 143. The longer board would only be ideal if you ride on powder days alot, or if you're looking for down-hill type speed. But for all-around, all-mtn type purpose, the 143 would probably be best. You'll get more out of it.

Have fun on the hill!

The 143 would definately be easier to control. I dont like the parks either, too many broken bones. If you wanna go for speed the 143 would be good too. I hope that helps.

Are you sure a size 7 will fit you? Usually you have to go up a half size to get boots to fit right. As long as the board hits somewhere in between the tops of your shoulders, and the middle of your chin you should be good.

i would say the 143, it will be easier to control, especially since ur a begginner and if you do decide to do park it will be better
