When you first use your computer its good for the battery to let it completely charge once then unplug it until the computer shuts off.....If you want to keep your computer pluged in to use daily, unplug the computer let the battery discharge at least once a month to keep it in top condition.....
I use my laptop like a desktop, it never gets unpluged accept for once a month to cycle the battery... I have had it for a year and can still get 2-3 hours of run time one a fully charged battery....

I've had a laptop computer for five years now and have had no problem leaving the battery in, while fully charged and running off of house current.

You do need to discharge the battery (say weekly or bi-weekly) to keep it healthy. Just run the computer on battery power until it gets way down to around 5% or so. Then plug the power cord back in to it.

Yes the battery will die a lot faster if you don't because it wears it out. Also unplug the battery charger when you are not using it because that will stop the charger from charging your battery. (I've gone through 3 of them already)

The new Lithium-Ion battery should not need to be discharged completely to retain their charge duration. The manufacturers information I have read about LI-ion batteries states the charger goes into trickle mode when the battery is near full charge. It is actually not good to fully discharge Li-ion batteries and then recharge them. Better to perform lots of small charges than several full charges-in other words, keep it charged. Lithium batteries have no "memory".
