Use Witch Hazel to clean the area, it doesn't sting like alcohol and will disinfect. Just a dab of iodine after that, allow it time to dry before returning it to the water. This may be foreplay, a male RES reaches sexual maturity around 3 years, a female at 11 or 12. keep an eye on the "spot", if it becomes worse, or she stops eating, it's time to find a vet. Keep in mind that most vets have little experience with reptiles, so look for one who treats exotics.

Turtles often bite each other, especially if they are a little crowded.

If it looks like an injury, it probably is. If the skin is broken, it should be cleaned and treated with a dab of antibiotic ointment and the turtle kept out of the water for a few hours.

If the skin is not broken, but looks red under the scales, or looks inflamed, swollen, etc., then it could be infected and would need the care of a vet.

Most bites in captivity are annoying but do not require any special attention.
