I want to be the type of person people are comfortable to be around and to talk to, NOT the type people will try to keep a conversation at a minimum and at the bare necessity.

You can't change your personaility, it's who you are :) Though, you can start being more sociable :) Find people who have the same interests as you do. Don't try to fit in. Just be yourself. You'll find that people who really want to get to know you will love you for who you are.

Join a club, take up a sport or even start going to church. You'll definetly get the opportunity to meet some interesting people. Have fun & be happy! :)

Nice question. I deal with people everyday and my quick and easy answer is to be yourself. People are interested in someone who can express themselves without fear of rejection. My personality is to joke and kid around but not to take thing overly seriously. If you try to be something you are not, most people will recognize it. Realism is just as detectable as being fake. The latter will only last a minute before people catch on.

Hence, poke people with conversation you are familar with. This way, you can be yourself and network at the same time.

Lastly, remember, there are also people that hate to socialize and you must respect their point of view.

There is an old addage that goes "In order to have a friend ; be a friend".

If you are socially abrasive, or you are too shy, the best thing to do is find some social activity that involves the interests that you have.

If it is reading - go to a library or book store.

If it is alcohol - go to a bar.

If it is gaming - go to a game shop / comic book store.

But make sure you are nice, polite, and not condescending.
Take interest (or pretend!) in the what other people have to say. And ask questions about their answers to your questions.

Try to smile and be polite to everyone. Do not use foul language. Read a lot so you will know a lot about many subjects and be an interesting conversationalist. Be helpful to other people and kind. Develop a sense of humor and show interest in what other people are saying. I hope this helps. Good luck to you.

You have to be sincere & honest with your own life & if you truly are meant to be liked, then you will be. Other than that, you could always buy some clay & make your own characters to play with OR a Mr. Potatoe Head kit makes a fine example of a "likeable" entity!
