right now i have an amd athlon single core 3800 socket 939 and i want to know if i buy an amd athlon x2 4200 socket 939, would the heatsink work with it?

Hi. The dual core may need some additional cooling. Test with your current HSF combo and see it the temps are reasonable. Consider liquid cooling if the current HSF does not do it for you. Quieter, more stable temps. Use a non conducting fluid like PC Ice.

So long as the socket is the same the heat sync will be the same.

as long as it is on the same socket, it will work just fine.
by the way, a new processor is packaged together with a heatsink.
am i wrong?
