Because it kills you and the people around you. Yes if you are healthy it might not kill you but if you have asthma or you are allergic to smoke like my brother is it can be bad. Also when you live somewhere with smoke not only is it in the air but it is in the carpets and walls and everything else.

It shouldn't. there is only a certain point where you can tell people what to do and you shouldn't. If its in a public area then it should be because it is infringing on the rights of other people. I don't care to risk my life or have my children suck that stuff down. But, Just like alcohol and a really bad neon green sweater, if you want to be an idiot thats your own choice.

In a perfect worl no one would smoke, but a perfect world will never be achived and outlawing it will just create a black market for it. There will be people trying to deal tabacco and more kids getting thrown into jail just for smoking a cigarette.
Just what we need to waste more money on, trying to stop people from smuggling in tabacco, when you look at it right now its the opposite, instead of spending tax dollars the government maxes lots of money from the taxes of cigarettes.

And really is it any worse the numerous perscription drugs on the market that are legal also?

It shouldn't be. WE should respect the Rights of those to be stupid. Some people don't wear bike helmet, some don't wear seat belt. Some shovel in artery clogging burger after artery clogging burger down at the Golden Arches. Some people drink until they have pickled their liver.

It is their choice. Just as smoking is. Let's face it pretty much every public place is smoke free these days, smokers are only hurting themselves.

nobody actually cares if if someone kills themself by smoking, but the second hand smoke is unjust. The person above who said they were exposed but not harmed is either very lucky or has no idea what shes talking about and has no medical evidence to back it up. Also, she is using one case where someone wasnt harmed. Either way, the smoke reeks and is unfair. Would u wantsomeone to explode a gas bomb in ur room every morning? The person above says "it doesnt give u cancer or get u sick." a normal person would say "u cant force me to havta have gas bombs in my room." Well its the same as second hand smoke.

Smoking in and of itself should not be illegal. Infringing on another's rights to breathe clean air is the main problem.

I thank God that most restaurants are non-smoking now. I don't even want to eat if I can smell smoke (and "sections" are a joke--it is like a no-peeing section of a pool).

Smokers should be allowed to kill themselves slowly as long as they aren't disturbing others. Unfortunately, most white trash smoke in their trailers and in their cars and expose their little white trash kids to the smoke and that isn't right...do you hear me, Brittany?

because the role of the Government is to protect us from ourselves.
you shouldn't be asking should smoking be illegal, but why should it be legal.

It's because they are taxing us without representation. And they like the sense of power. And I believe they may feel they may need some of our organs one day, so they want us healthy. One thing about evil rich men, they don't stop with just using u for cheap labor and draining you dry, they'll use you down to your internal organs. It IS against our constitutional rights...what was it we're supposed to be fighting for in Iraq....??????

It shouldn't...if you want to screw up your lungs it's your own choice and you're not hurting anyone else, despite what anti-smokers claim. I've been exposed to secondhand smoke for decades and it's never hurt me.
