I can't speak for any league outside of Melbourne, but NSW and VIC usually have the best squads at the national tournament
As far as seriousness goes, it's competitive, but the quality is about as good as a high school US team.

When does the season start?
These season I am playing football in Europe, but I have some thoughts of moving into Australia for a year!

Maybe but play div soccer already so would only be looking for a social league in Brisbane.
How serious a league are we talking here?
