I returned something that was bought w/ half gift card, half paid w/ credit card. Then I returned that, and bought something else, used the mer. credit they gave me for the 1st return plus paid like $30 more with my c.c. I tried it on at home and I want to return it. They said I can only get a merchandise credi for that since I bought, return, so many times. EVEN THOUGH, I paid for some of it on my Credit card, Is this fair?

by the way I have a receipt and I don't like waiting in lines at the busy stores so I try it on at HOME! Nothing wrong with that if I have a receipt for all my purchases. I work in retail too.

If you work retail then you know that many stores are having problems with chronic returners. You look like a problem to the store and if their stated policy allows them to do this, than they can.

There is no "law" that says they have to accept ANY returns. Most retailers do this as a courteousy (some even provide refunds).

It is my understanding that the retailer must let you know what their policy is, but there is nothing that prohibits them from making all sales final.

You've probably cost them all the profit they would have made by exchanging everything a couple of times. The expense of reversing the transactions, restocking the items, repackaging them if necessary, etc translates into higher costs for everyone. They're looking to limit their losses with you now.

I say they're more than fair to let you exchange it any more at all.

from working in retail myself...i completely agree with the other answers....they were correct in offering you store credit...it really doesnt take that long to try things on at the store.....and then you dont have to go through all this hassle!
