Not if you plan on just staying on the Disney property. If you plan on going to other parks (SeaWorld, Universal) it wouldn't be a bad idea. But if you're stricting going to Disney parks only, then I would say my money. Disney resort guests get picked up at the airport, taken to their hotel, and then the Disney bus service will take you to any park you want to go to. IT'S GREAT!!!! So easy. The wait times can get kind of long (especially during the end of the day), but all in all, it's a GREAT service. And, when you're trip is over, a bus will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the airport.

Ditto, ditto, and ditto (except for the nasty one lol). As everyone said, if you plan to stay in Disney, no need for a car at all, as their transportation is easier and faster than cars.

BUT if you want to do anything off property it might be a good idea to rent a car for a day or two. There is some awesome shopping down there. TONS of outlets (including a couple legitmate Disney ones. Just be sure to get the addy from Disney as there are many fake Disney shops but these have last seasons park merchandise ranging from cheap to dirt cheap!). Some other outlets are the usual touristy ones, but some are definately worth checking out if you are willing to give up a day in the parks. No way to see everything in a week unless you run, but who ever see's everything Disney in a trip...it's part of why we all keep coming back lol. And if you are going shopping, you might want to see where the Home Shopping Network outlets are now. I know they closed one in Orlando but there are several in the area. I planned to shop on my way out of the parks, before my flight. It was a VERY late flight. I almost didn't have time to return the car and I never made it to any other store. The shopping was THAT good!!!

I wouldn't rent a car to go to Universal, etc. There are several shuttle services that cater to the Disney guest that wants to visit Universal or any of the other major tourist attractions. They were cheaper than a rental, very convenient, no hassles just door to door service in a well appointed comfy shuttle. I remember making a reservation for pick up time and we called when we wanted to be picked up to go back.

Here's some advice I got from my mom. Disney transportation is very reliable. There are always buses/boats/monorails/etc. to take you where you want to go. But if you are going to be staying on property for an extended amount of time, rent a car. Disney is an amazing place to vacation, but after being there almost a week, you're probably going to want to get off property for a few days and eat some cheaper food and find stuff that isn't sold in the Magic Kingdom. The only way to get OFF Disney property is to take a cab, and unless you can afford it, cabs are horridly pricey. Have fun on your trip!

Not if you're not going to leave the property. And there's really not much need to do so. They have restaurants and shopping everywhere, and transportation to everything - usually at least 2-3 different forms of transportation, too. You might think that the restaurants are expensive, but by the time you rent a car, maybe pay for insurance on it, pay for gas and maybe parking to drive somewhere, spend the time to get there and find the place and get back, it's probably cheaper and definitely easier to stay on the property. There's probably a shuttle of some sort to get you to and from the airport, even. Why bother?

No need to, if your strictly staying on Disney property they have there own transportation that runs great. There are buses that run probably every 20 minutes. Monorails that will get you from Magic Kingdom to Epcot and the Transportaion and Ticket Center as well as all the Deluxe Resorts. Also you can opt to ride the Magical Express from the Air Port to the Resorts! Have fun!

It is always a good idea to have a rental car. Even if you are staying on Disney property, there will come a time when you want to come off of the resort and explore the other things that the Kissimmee/Orlando area has to offer.
You can of course depend on the other methods of transportation available but you will have to set your schedule with their schedule. This is your vacation and you should have the freedom to come and go as you like. Also, don't worry about getting lost here....those of us who live here always say..."All roads leads to Disney"
Enjoy your trip

Only if you plan to visit other locations which are off Disney property such as the beach, Kennedy Space Center, Sea World, Universal, Etc...

I typically recommend that guests wait to pick up their rental until the last few days of their vacation. Do all of your Disney stuff first so that you can take advantage of the free transportation and then have an Enterprise car brought to you. You can also rent from Avis at the Hilton which is located across the street from Downtown Disney.

When we went there was no need for a rental car. You walk out to the street to catch a shuttle bus to any of the parks. There is also an elevated train that you can ride for free. Our tickets also covered the bus ride from the airport and back.
