Because we know more. The longer the life, the more memories, the more events (happy and sad), the more people (liked and disliked), the more comparisons we make, the more chances of getting rejections, the more chances of not winning the lotto, and so on.
But it's all in the memory. Make sure you always rewind the good happy memories, choose a few bad ones to learn from, and find things to do that will keep your mind interested and working. I find that when my mind is solving a mind-boggling problem I don't realize the time. Makes me feel younger.

No one really knows for sure... will things really get better? I always feel like it has to get worse before getting better :) ''the grass is always greener on the other side'' what if its not? lol. It's just a way of giving one a more positive outlook.
If you're an optimist, no problem in the world would bother you. We're not made to perfection. It's alright to make mistakes, especially when we learn from them. If you look at life from a different point of view, you'll realise how blessed you really are.
You may not have what you want, but most of the time, you have what you need. The warmth of family, good friends who stick by you & maybe that special someone. We don't know what the future holds. But coming this far, would it be worth to throw it all away? :)

Life is about "Free Will."
Just as you chose to write this question, you choose to be angry, depressed, anxious, happy, friendly, and etc.
We choose to experience everything--emotionally, physically, spiritually, and etc.
Oh, and that grass is greener on the other...
There's just as many weeds, pest, bald spots, and maintenance on the other side of the fence.
Yes, there's a bit of truth in those old sayings.
One would have to deny the ebb and flow of life-to discount the truth within "not knowing what you had-until its gone."
But, gloom and doom--that's a state of mind.
A conscious decision to play those mental Mp3's that, are defeatist and negative. The type of self-loathing that, imposes a sad, dismal aura around a person.
A stagnant hopelessness.
If you choose to find truth in negativity--your result will come true. Logic mandates that, if the premise is true--the conclusion must be true.
Be grateful! Choose to experience the joy in everything.
Its Spring--the long desolation and decay of Winter has passed.
The bugs are buzz'in, the flowers are grow'in, the days are longer--you gotta get stronger!
Choose to change your mind--in turn you will change your life. Pay attention to what you tell yourself about yourself.
Spend time in meditative contemplation.
Set some goals and act on your desire.
Find what you are passionate about and JUST DO IT!
You don't have to postpone happiness--find joy in the process-not just in the realization of your dream.
Create positive self-talk.
Discover an "Attitude of Grattitude."
As you said, you never miss it until its gone---so take nothing for granted.
You must take action--the action to change your life, to change your mind--"Free Your Mind and Your A** will follow."
Lastly, Be gentle with yourself.
Take some time to deeply inhale and exhale daily.

i think there are times when life can get the better of you - mainly the big picture stuff.
I'm almost 22 and at a mid life crisis as i have realised i haven't achieved anything that i thought i would at this age...
i know the common adviceis to not sweat the small stuff - but i think appreciate the small stuff... even though in the grand scheme of things i haven't been successful (i have no career, no investments, no money) i have some good relationships in my life.
There is always something positive (and i know it can be almost impossible to find it sometimes)
Look hard enough... and you may just find...

Life sucks simple. But, life sometimes doesn't suck! I think alot has to be how you preceive it! When life gives you lemon you make lemonade. You control the outcomes of happiness.Of course, if you failed exams at school how would one be happy? You "make a lemonade" from the experience. Study harder next time. Try not to focus on the negative of the situation ..fight your way out. Tell yourself life does suck, but you will have better days. Remember life isn't constant. Like the weather changes so does your opinions. feelings and bad days :)

Honestly, I wonder myself. I had an experience where I had a great life that I took for granted and now that it's gone, I finally understood how great I had it. Now I wonder If I'll ever be that happy again. I'm starting to think life is just a cruel joke played on many of us.

As a man thinketh, so is he...
Some believe getting older is wonderful and very satisfying.
