*Use red and gold colors.
*Large Asian fans as wall decorations
*Use plastic take out boxes (check a party store--they're marketed as gift bags) with red foil garland and chopsticks to decorate tables.
*If it's in the budget, these cardboard pagodas would be cute: http://www.shindigz.com/catalog.cfm?pgp=1P229A
Or try making your own.
*Small bamboo plants are inexpensive ($5 - $8).
*Paper umbrellas/parasols can be hung from the ceiling or used on tables. ($6)
*Fortune cookies!
*Room setters, like this bamboo one: http://www.asianideas.com/barose.html, may be a little too expensive for an entire room, but could be used on one single wall, or on doors.
*Paint long, wide strips of fabric with Asian designs (characters, koi fish, ect) to hang on the wall.
*Asian screens
You should be able to find Asian decorations at a local party store. They may even be discounted because of Chinese New Year.
Good luck!

Maybe consider taking very large peices of paper, as large as you can get (for example, in a gym, maybe 4x8ft). Red is an idea color.
On the top and bottom ends staple the paper around small strips of wood to provide stability and weight.
Paint descreet oriental symbols on them and suspend them, scattered, from the ceiling. This might lend a warm and dark feel to the room.
Hope this helps.
Lisa :)

RED ENVELOPES! Use red envelopes for the tickets they buy. Like the wedding tradition of how you give money to the bride and groom/ and at Chinese New Year.
I definitely agree with the Red, Gold, and Black. and doing the hand fans.
But decorate with tigers and koi fish.
For each table, either put a paper lattern (oriental trading) or buy those lil zen gardens with the sand and the rake to put on each table. Last time I was at the dollar store I saw them in there.

Well, why don't you put on a kimono with heightened hem... like Madonna's "Nothing Really Matters" style. That's oriental but don't do that geisha makeup, it's drag and drab!

have you ever seen "back to the destiny" and the 70's below the water subject matter? if not, it grew to become into alluring! Shells, sand and tealights in boxes on blue table cloths make worry-free decorations. Blue cray paper and worry-free to color back drops of blue and ocean scenes animals. Its truly worry-free to paper mache shells and sea creatures like crabs and starfishes. It grew to become into so distinctly! stable success!
